Finca Un Regalo de Dios

/Behind the story/

Finca Un Regalo de Dios means “ Gift from God” is located in the Mozonte municipality of Nueva Segovia, in the far north, close to the border with Honduras in the Dipilto-Jalapa mountain range. This farm is one of several owned by Luis Alberto Moncada, who also owns the Beneficio Las Segovia coffee mill in Ocotal. One of his farms, La Bendicion took 1st place in 2018 Cup of Excellence and Un Regalo de Dios took 5th place, and in 2020 last year the roles changed, Un Regalo de Dios won the 1st place in Cup of Excellence with a Maragogype natural. The farm itself is divided into microlots to account for the specific location (topography, altitude, exposure to sun, wind) and coffees later are separated based on varietal and process. Even multiple lots from the same coffee plantation harvested and processed in the same day may have subtle variations that make them suitable for pulped natural or full natural rather than conventional washed. The goal is to achieve full traceability for each lot in order to be able to control the quality and manage experimental processing techniques.

/Changing perception about Nicaraguan coffee/

Luis Alberto Moncada is a multiple awarded producer in Cup Of Excellence. He is no stranger to producing exceptional coffee and his ability to produce clean natural is unbelievable and brings coffee from Nicaragua to the next level. Finca Un Regalo de dios has a loose sandy soil, with abundant humid of annual rainfall between 1,400 and 1,600 mm that create a micro climate with temperature ranging from 14 to 16 Celsius. In additional the farm has a rich biodiverse environment of fauna and flora, all this together create the optimal coffee growing condition. The care and processing that goes into every lot that is processed in this farm are second to none, with careful detail at every stage, starting with optimal level cherry picking at the farm level. This coffee is from the “El Salvador” microlot and it’s been dried for 30-35 days with the coffee cherry on top on the beans, which imparts an inherent fruitiness to the bean.
